Kundalini Yoga... an intriguing term given by Yogi Bhajan to the system of yoga that he taught in the West in the late '60s.
A yoga system that he officially named "Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan®" to avoid confusion and reactions to the use of term kundalini and to establish this potent and specifically designed, integrated system of practice that leads to physical, emotional, mental and spiritual well-being. In fact, kundalini is the dormant vital energy situated at the base of the spine, and awakening her is a goal of all yogic paths and practices. There are also other Kundalini Yoga styles, but here we will be referring to Yogi Bhajan's system.
And what is Kundalini yoga then?
It is a practice that combines most of the yogic tools or limbs of yoga, with specific series of exercises (kriya), various pranayama and meditations to powerfully awake our inner, dormant potential and recharge our body with energy and prana. Although each kriya has been designed for a specific purpose (i.e. to boost the immune system, to balance the mind, to open the heart centre, etc), they are all potent exercises that change the body's biochemistry and vibration instantly. One can find all the teachings online and multiple testimonials of how people's lives have changed after diving into Kundalini Yoga. And this is not because it is a mystical, magical practice; only because it is a practice that intensely trains your breath and activates very efficiently the parasympathetic nervous system. This helps the mind calm down and automatically lets you remain in silent peace and connect to yourself, to Your real Self. Once you are aligned with Your Self everything starts to flow in your path and you are guided towards the right decisions at the right time. Because we have all the knowledge we need within and that's the beauty of it. We only need to clear the muddy waters within our mind, put aside conventional fears and keep our mind focused. Consistent practice of kundalini yoga puts you automatically in that space. Give it a try, it will not fail you.
